Who is responsible for your data
Tamar Digital, a sole trader, owned by Stanley Keighley, of 16 Hay Crescent, Launceston, Cornwall, PL15 9GW, is the "controller" of the personal information described here. This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers for visitors. To show prices, our servers fetch the registrar's public price list and a currency exchange rate; no visitor information is sent in those requests. When you check whether a domain name is free, the name you type is sent to us, and from our servers to our registrar (Porkbun) or to the public registry service for that extension (for example Nominet for .uk) to see if it is registered. Your name, email address or other details are not sent to the registry.
The domain status checker works the same way: the domain name you type is sent to us and from our servers to the public registry service, which gives back whether it is active and its renewal date. We keep that answer for 10 minutes, and a short-lived counter for each visitor to stop misuse.
What we collect when you send a request
- Your name and email address, and your phone number if you give it.
- What you need (domain, hosting, web design), the domain name you asked about, and anything you write in the message box.
- A record that you ticked the privacy box, and when.
- When you sign the customer agreement: the name you typed as your signature, which boxes you ticked, the date and time, and the internet address and browser details of the device you signed from. We keep this as proof of the agreement.
The form on this website does not take payments.
What we collect when you ask for a change
- Your name and email address, and the website address if you give it.
- What kind of change you want and what you write in the message box.
- A record that you ticked the privacy box, and when.
We use this only to reply to you and do the work. We keep it with your order records.
Counting visits
Cloudflare, which hosts this website, counts visits in total (for example pages viewed and visitors per day). It does this on its own servers, without cookies or tracking scripts on your device. We look at these totals only to see how the website is doing. We do not use them to follow individual visitors.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
| Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Reply to your request and give you a quote | Taking steps at your request before a contract (contract) |
| Buy your domain, host or design your website, take payment, and invoice you if you become a customer | Contract |
| Send you renewal reminders for your domains (60, 30 and 7 days before they renew) | Contract |
| Keep records that registry, ICANN and tax rules require | Legal obligation |
We do not send marketing emails.
Who we share it with
- When we buy a domain for you: our registrar, Porkbun LLC (United States), and the registry for the extension. They receive your name and contact details as the registrant. Some details may appear in public WHOIS/RDDS records under registry rules, although personal data is often hidden. What is shown depends on the extension and the registrar, and we can tell you what is shown for your domain.
- Cloudflare, which hosts this website and stores the requests sent through it.
- Our payment providers: Stripe for card payments and GoCardless for Direct Debit. They receive the details needed to take your payment (such as your name, email and payment details). We do not see or store your full card or bank details.
- The makers of the security tools you choose: if you take a password manager, secure email, a VPN or secure cloud storage through us, we give the maker the details needed to set up your account, such as your name, your email address and how many users you need. The tools then collect their own data under the maker's own privacy policy: for example the passwords or files you store. We do not have access to the passwords or files you store. The makers are separate companies and are responsible for the data in their own products.
- Our email host, when you have a mailbox: a third-party provider stores the email in your mailbox on our behalf.
- Remote support: if you ask for remote support, we can see your screen and what is on it during the session you have asked for. We do not keep a copy, and we do not keep access to your computer afterwards.
- Courts, regulators or other parties where the law requires, or where someone gives us reasonable evidence that a domain is causing harm.
We do not sell your personal information.
Transfers outside the UK
Your details are sent to our registrar in the United States, and to the makers of any security tools you choose, and are stored by our service providers, which may be outside the UK. UK law requires safeguards for these transfers, and we only send what is needed to carry out your order, such as registering your domain.
How long we keep it
If you do not become a customer, we keep your request for 12 months, then delete it. If you become a customer, we keep your details while you use our services and afterwards for as long as registry, ICANN and tax rules require (accounting records are generally kept for six years). We delete or anonymise information when it is no longer needed.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, restrict or object to how we use it, or move it to another provider. Some rights are limited where we must keep records by law, or where the registry needs accurate contact details to keep a domain active. Contact us using the details above.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Saved quote answers
So you do not lose your place, the quote form keeps your answers, including any name, email, phone number and message you type, in your own browser (not on our servers) for 7 days. Nothing is sent to us until you sign and send the quote. You can wipe it at any time with "Start again" on the quote page, or by clearing your browser data.
Cookies
This website sets no cookies for visitors. If you choose dark or light mode, your choice is remembered on your own device only (not sent to us). The staff area sets one login cookie, only for staff, after they sign in. If we ever add analytics or advertising cookies, we will ask for your consent first.
